Have you thought about how your child’s zodiac sign will affect how you parent them? Whether your kid’s star sign might determine their personality and development? Today we’re taking a look at why children’s star signs help or hinder you as a parent, and how you can work with them to make the journey easier.
Babies and children come under the 5th house, and Leo. This reflects the natural outgoing exuberance of childhood, inquisitiveness and the ability to soak up all the experiences life has to offer. Gradually you will see their unique personalties emerge and form according to the characteristics of their zodiac sign. Don’t forget to take account of their Moon and ascendant signs too.
Aries Child: March 21 – April 19
Your Aries toddler is going to keep you on the go. All day long. You won’t get much rest until they finally close their eyes to sleep. They are full of energy, and often get into trouble because of their impulsive and spontaneous nature. You can never take your eyes off them. Knowing this, you can go all out to engage them in physical activities. Put a structured schedule in place so that both you and your child know when it is time to be active and when it is time to calm it down. You will have to assert your authority as a parent at times, because it’s usually impossible to reason with an Aries child.
Taurus Child: April 20 – May 20
To say a Taurus child can be stubborn is a mild understatement. If you can imagine trying to force a bull into a fridge, you’ll have some understanding of the temperament of your Taurus offspring. You will have to develop some persuasion strategies, but be careful not to fall into the ‘food as reward’ trap. Try to find other ways of cajoling and encouraging your Taurus toddler to cooperate. They adore cuddles and snuggling up for a story, so let that be your main weapon, “C’mon, if you have your bath, we can snuggle up and read The Hungry Caterpillar – again.” Taurus can be reluctant to take physical exercise, so get them active and engaged in any kind of sport as early as possible. They may do well in a martial art, such as judo.
Gemini Child: May 21 – June 20
Gemini children have such scattered energies and thoughts, and it’s important never to dismiss their concerns as nonsense. They need validation and a parent who is willing to talk through their issues, and who will listen to them on equal terms. Communication is the key to good parenting a Gemini child. They do well if their day is clearly structured and they understand what is expected of them. It’s a good idea to build the day around mealtimes, as Geminis have a tendency to forget about, or even ignore food, while they are pursuing some absorbing topic. It’s really important to make time for them as teens. Geminis need to have their feet held onto while they explore all the possibilities before them. Having said that, never ridicule or dismiss their ambitions. Pragmatic, yet gentle encouragement is everything.
Cancer Child: June 21 – July 22
There is no child more loving and affectionate than a Cancerian child. From a very early age, you will be treated to unconditional adoration. They have a tendency to be shy and withdrawn when in the company of other people, so paying attention to their social development is very important in order that they grow up well-rounded and confident. Cancer children are often talented in the areas of art and music, and these creative endeavors should be encouraged. Give your baby a paintbrush and let them express themselves at the earliest opportunity. At the same time, don’t neglect outdoor activities. Watch out for food allergies and intolerances.
Leo Child: July 23 – August 22
Happiness is the default setting of the Leo baby. They have sunny, easy-going personalities. They like to be the center of attention, so it is vital to encourage them to share the limelight with other children. You have to be subtle in the way you go about this. Humiliate a Leo, even inadvertently, and you could damage them for a long time. Explain gently to them they need to stand back to give others a chance – and this is best done privately, not in front of their peers. The sporting arena is Leo’s natural element so do all you can to facilitate and encourage them to participate in whatever activity takes their fancy. Leo children soak up love and adoration like a sponge; don’t hold your affection back in fear they may be ‘spoiled’. You can’t spoil a child with love.
Virgo Child: August 23 – September 22
Intelligent, inquisitive, self-motivated, and a little highly strung are typical characteristics of a Virgo child. They may have perfectionist tendencies so it is worthwhile encouraging them to have fun and make a mess occasionally. They must know it’s okay to experiment and fail. As they are such natural learners, they do well in a home-school environment where the parent acts as a facilitator rather than a teacher. Virgo children are quite capable of teaching themselves anything they need/want to know. Having said that, they perform well at school too, as long as they have good relationships with their teachers. Your Virgo child requires a balanced diet, plenty of fresh air and gentle exercise in order to stay grounded and at peace.
Libra Child: September 23 – October 22
Peace-loving Libra is a joy to have around. They love to communicate and are able to join in conversations from an early age. Like Virgo, they are learning sponges and this ability should be encouraged and facilitated. They are also good with their hands, so developmental toys like Lego can be invaluable for motor skills and creativity. Let them draw and paint, build and create as freely as possible. Hearing their parents or guardians fight disturbs and distresses them. Libra children hate discord and harsh words, therefore, they have to be exposed to the realities of the world in small doses. Libra is not very combative, so non-competitive activities will suit them.
Scorpio Child: October 23 – November 21
Look into the eyes of your Scorpio child and you will know without doubt that this is not their first time round. They have the ability to make their parent feel like the child in the relationship. As young kids, they dote on their parents, and happily join whatever activities you are able to provide. It’s only later on, when their ‘dark side’ comes to the fore that they may go off the rails, usually because of early romantic encounters. Loyal to the extreme, Scorpio children are also determined and competitive. As their parent, you can’t do an awful lot to influence them – they are their own person.
Sagittarius Child: November 22 – December 21
Restless and adventure-seeking, if any child will keep their parents up at night, Sagittarius is it. Your Sagittarian is the kind of child who hides their hurt feelings under a veneer of spirit and bravado. It’s hard to tell if they are happy or sad because they always seem to be full of optimism and good cheer. Thus it is vital to keep the channels of communication open, and to encourage your child to share when they are in need of support. Don’t be discouraged if you find that your young Sagittarian cannot stick to one interest or activity. Trying different things is part and parcel of their character, so should be allowed and encouraged. Refrain from investing too much time or money in any new interest as it could be discarded at any moment.
Capricorn Child: December 22 – January 19
Capricorn children are single-minded and focussed, even from a very early age. If s/he doesn’t want to sleep, they won’t. If they want something, you will know about it. It is all too easy to be drawn into a power struggle with your little goat, and they usually win, so head them off at the pass, if possible. Distract, rather than confront. Young Capricorns see life as a trial and need to be encouraged to let go and have fun. Playing in freedom with other children doesn’t come naturally to them, although they can play alone, absorbed, for hours. They are also prone to deep emotions which they will hide at all costs. Capricorns must learn to set small achievable goals, rather than over-face themselves with targets that are impossible to reach.
Aquarius Child: January 20 – February 18
Probably the most difficult to parent of all the signs, the Aquarian child is full of contrast and contradictions. There is something magical and mysterious about them and you will need exceptional parenting skills in order to bring out their best. Give them your undivided attention, listen to them, and be prepared to compromise. They are not unreasonable, although it may seem that way at the time, and they are almost always right, so be prepared to learn-as-you-go. You can’t parent an Aquarius child with any preconceived notions. Be flexible and willing to change. Aquarian toddlers are highly inquisitive and this, together with a tendency to act on impulse means you need to be on your toes at all times. Questioning and challenging, young Aquarians need extra stimulation in a learning environment. Regular school may not be able to give them what they need, so consider alternatives. Hogwarts would be a good choice.
Pisces Child: February 19 – March 20
Your Pisces baby will snuggle in and cling to you from the minute they are born. They need to feel secure and protected, so a safe and stable family background is essential to their well-being. Born empaths, they seem to know how you are feeling and respond accordingly. Providing them with a gentle companion, such as a dog, will do wonders for their confidence – Pisces loves to love. They are prone to making all their decisions by the way they feel. Pisceans need to learn how to operate in the world, so teach them how to separate feelings from thought, and to apply logic. Happy in solitude, you will need to encourage them to interact with their peers. Don’t give in to your Pisces’ every demand; they can turn into little dictators given half a chance.
Remember the element which dominates your child’s personality. Working with it, instead of against it will always be beneficial for both parent and child. And bearing in mind children’s zodiac signs as you travel along the parenting path will help you enormously. Here’s to a beautiful adventure with your zodiac child.
