“What’s my purpose in life? I feel like something is missing.” This is a question that astrologers hear all the time. People are always comparing themselves to others, and concluding their own lives are not as fulfilling as they ought to be, or that they haven’t found their right path, or discovered their destiny. Usually, these conclusions are false. There’s nothing wrong with their life; they just need to appreciate it more.
But what if we really feel there is more to life? What do we need to explore? Where do we look for guidance?
One of the things you can do is to delve into your sun sign personality. Your characteristics and personality traits can often suggest your purpose in life.
Pisces February 19 – March 20
Pisces personalities vary from the dreamy to the technically gifted. One thing they all need is a strong spiritual focus. If they attempt to go through life ignoring their psyche’s yearnings, then they will often feel a certain emptiness, however much they attain success on the outside. Pisces should allow their minds freedom to explore the possibilities; try out new ideas to feed the soul. Meditation, yoga, or simple contemplation of various philosophies may be the way to experience deep satisfaction. Eventually, leading or teaching such a class will deepen their spiritual connection.
Aries March 21 – April 19
One overriding characteristic of Aries is their ability to discover wonder in the world, from the mundane to the spectacular. This is a beautiful gift which should not be denied. Aries must fill up their well of inspiration by experiencing all the beauty that nature and man have to offer. Aries can be restrained or gregarious, but one thing they need to do is make space in their lives to enjoy the view, whether it be macro or micro. Acknowledging this need, and acting on it, can ward off depression and over-introspection. Think photography.
Taurus April 20 – May 20
Taurus have an affinity with structure. They like to know where they stand. They also have a keen sense of fairness and are the first to rise to defend injustice. Taurus is a great teacher; they know innately that the best way to learn is to teach. They are excellent at sharing ideas and shining a light on complex issues. Therefore, their purpose in life may well involve teaching or disseminating information. If Taurus is not already involved in this kind of work, then they should seriously consider it, even in their spare time. It will make them feel happy and appreciated.
Gemini May 21 – June 20
Freedom is the most important thing to a Gemini. Any situation where they feel restricted, either in thought, action or creativity is stifling for them. They love to express themselves verbally, often so wrapped up in their ideas and the need to get them out, that they override other people unintentionally. As self-expression is fundamental to their well-being, Geminis should consider either journaling their thoughts in writing or by keeping a recorded journal. Getting all this mind-stuff out will enable them to embrace equilibrium and develop tolerance for others. Eventually, this journal habit will become part of their day, and they will view it as their life’s work, their magnum opus, the story of who they are and who they are becoming.
Cancer June 21 – July 22
Some Cancerians, while appearing to be quite ‘normal’ to others, harbor a secret self within. This secret self longs to express itself in kooky clothes and surroundings. They may well be holding down a decent job, but really, in their imagination, they inhabit a fantasy world. To feel fulfilled and true to themselves, it’s a good idea to create an environment where fantasy and escapism is permitted. This might be to dress as they wish on the weekend, or to visit magical places and let their imagination run amok, or perhaps to indulge in creating a novel or series of short stories, in which all their dreams and ideas are expressed. Another possibility is to join a local drama/theater production. You gotta let your inner kook out.
Leo July 23 – August 22
Leos are such strong characters with accompanying strong opinions. They don’t often change their viewpoint once their mind is made up. This, while admirable in some situations, can make them difficult to get along with. However, their tenacity and determination to finish the job make them ideal freelancers or entrepreneurs. Leo should combine their ability to support the underdog with their fierce spirit of independence and start some charitable or social work – preferably something that will take advantage of their organizational skills and capacity to get things done. In this, they will discover their purpose in life.
Virgo August 23 – September 22
Virgos are people with many contrasts between their inner and outer life. They are quiet individuals who are fiercely protective of their privacy. One of their faults is to see themselves as lacking in some quality or another. Therefore, their mission in life is to focus on their strengths. The best way to do this is to cultivate a habit of self-appreciation. Virgo, you must learn to fall in love with yourself. You are fabulous.
Libra September 23 – October 22
Their well-developed ability to understand others and innate sense of fairness make Librans ideal counselors. They have pleasant and comfortable social interactions and are often sought out for their impartial and commonsense advice. They flourish in settings where their community spirit is allowed to be creative. Volunteer work may be the path that takes Libra toward their life-purpose. Working outdoors will enhance their feeling that they are making a positive contribution to the planet. If this type of work isn’t possible, then they should make good use of their communication skills in a counseling role.
Scorpio October 23 – November 21
Intensity is the signature quality of the Scorpio personality, whether it be work or play. Scorpio loves to frolic on the dark side of life. Passion is the key to living a fulfilled life, but then, they already know this. Scorpio has a fascination with the unusual, the magickal, and the extreme. Do not repress this interest, instead, explore the possibilities of the psychic realm. Study subjects like mind control and magic, the supernatural and the unexplained. You were born for exploring the deeper, hidden recesses of the soul.
Sagittarius November 22 – December 21
Unpredictability is the most predictable thing about the Sagittarian. They never cease to surprise. It’s possible that friends and loved ones will unintentionally attempt to suppress the more creative endeavors of Sagittarius by making them feel they need to conform. Sag needs to break out, to announce to the world their individuality. Conformity is not an option any longer. Being true to yourself is your purpose in life. Find any way you can to show your personality. Express your ideas either verbally, or via some creative outlet. Dare to be different. You know you want to.
Capricorn December 22 – January 19
Doing things the right way is the Capricorn way. They will stand for nothing less. Although it has to be said they sometimes offer themselves more leeway than they bestow upon others. Grounded, practical and full of common sense, it’s hard to imagine a less spiritual personality. However, Capricorns are deeply spiritual. They feel a strong connection to the Earth. Capricorn will find restorative value in physical activity, such as gardening, walking and simply breathing in fresh air. Combining your practical day-to-day activities with being at one with nature will satisfy your inner being.
Aquarius January 20 – February 18
Aquarius is always in pursuit of happiness. They may well have already found it in their working and spiritual life. They find purpose in honing their not inconsiderable skills, demonstrating their mastery of their chosen profession and expressing their creativity in everything they do. Aquarius is characterized by their affinity with children and childhood. They can either develop this by working with children, parenting or simply by allowing their inner child to come out and play. Revel in childish things, they are not superficial distractions but a pathway to your purpose.
Many of us get confused trying to discover our purpose in life. What it boils down to is how can you find the best use of your time that gives you the most satisfaction? Many have already found the work, pastime, hobby, interest, or spiritual practice which fulfills the question. Often the activity or arena changes – what was fulfilling at twenty is not at forty. Occasionally, you might need to take a trip down memory lane and revisit what excited you at ten years old.
Determining where you feel happiest is also part of the equation. Perhaps you would be happier outside of the city, or maybe you would feel more connected living among other people? Do you prefer your pursuit of purpose to be solitary or do you need to involve others?
The ultimate question to ask yourself is, of course, what do you want to leave behind or remembered for when you eventually shuffle off this mortal coil? The answer may be illuminating.
