Relationship Tarot Card Spread
Relationships can be tricky things. Most of the time they are solid; we know where we stand and where we’re headed. Other times, we have doubts whether we are even on the same page. The Relationship spread can help you to establish a basis for further exploration, and give you an idea whether you need to take action or carry on as you are.
This layout uses five cards. Start at the bottom with the first card. The second on the left, tilting outward. The third on the right also tilting outward, and the final two cards centered above the others, also tilted slightly. It approximates to a heart shape.
Interpret the cards in the same order:
- Card 1 – Who or what holds my heart?
- Card 2 – Problem areas?
- Card 3 – Strengths?
- Card 4 – What should we focus on?
- Card 5 – What direction are we moving in?
Quick example reading
Who or what holds my heart? Looks as though the seeker has given her heart to someone who reminds her of the King of Cups.
Problem areas? Justice. Their problems appear to be connected to the balance of the relationship. Perhaps one has more power than the other, or it is possible they are too focused on who holds the upper hand. It’s worth exploring this in more depth.
Strengths? Page of Wands. They share a love of new adventures. Perhaps they love to travel or create new projects.
What should we focus on? The Seven of Cups could mean that this couple are not focused at all. That their energies are scattered and their goals are undefined.
What direction are we moving in? The Two of Pentacles indicates that there could be a time of readjustment until the required balance between the couple is reached. Compromise and a change of attitude may be required.
Looking for Love Spread
This spread is laid out like a question mark, starting at the top left and going downward. We’ve omitted the ‘dot’ of the question mark, but if you feel you need further clarification, feel free to draw a sixth card. Beware, extra cards can sometimes lead to confusion.
Again, interpret the cards in the same order that you put them down.
- Card 1 – My current outlook on love?
- Card 2 – What do I want from a relationship?
- Card 3 – What do I need to know about love?
- Card 4 – How might I find love?
- Card 5 – Is love coming my way soon?
Should you need the sixth card you could use it to clarify any of the above positions or simply use it as an overall ‘energy’ or ‘surrounding influences’ card.
Quick Example Reading
My current outlook on love? Ten of Pentacles shows that the seeker would like a relationship that is part of a solid traditional family. She would prefer her partner to be established and wealthy.
What do I want from a relationship? The Knight of Wands. She wants an adventurous, roller coaster relationship, full of passion.
What do I need to know about love? Five of Cups. The seeker needs to know that emotional challenges are part of every relationship, and there are always positive aspects to focus on.
How might I find love? The Fool. She needs to take risks. Try new things and go to new places. Step outside her comfort zone. Trust that the Universe will deliver.
Is love coming my way soon?. The Empress indicates that love is indeed on the way, and the seeds of love may already be planted. The seeker must open her heart and allow her passionate nature to come forth.
Career Guidance Tarot Spread
Quite often, the changing seasons and the turning of a new year causes us to question if we are on the right career path. This spread is designed to help you decide if the time is right for a change of direction.
The cards are laid out like a tree, with one card to indicate your current career and two others to represent what might happen if you ‘branched off’.
Start at the base with card one, place card two above. Card three tilts to the left. Cards four and five branch out to the right.
- Card 1 – Where I am today
- Card 2 – Progression
- Card 3 – If I stay where I am…
- Card 4 – First steps to branching out
- Card 5 – New direction
Quick Example Reading
Where am I today? Star. The seeker is feeling very positive about her career right now. Her job is rewarding, and she is full of hope for the future.
Progression? Eight of Pentacles. It appears that she is about to increase her knowledge and hone her existing skills. There may be a training course or a chance to learn new aspects of her work.
If I stay where I am…? Three of Wands. This card indicates that for the near future, things are looking good right where she is.
First steps to branching out? Nine of Wands. She won’t feel ready to change direction unless her current job becomes wearying to her.
New direction? Ace of Pentacles. Indicates that a new job will invigorate her, provide a better salary and be more rewarding. It’s possible that she should think about starting her own business.
This card combination suggests that the seeker should wait a while and carry out another reading after a month has passed to see if circumstances indicate the time is right for a change. Or not.
