Border patrolmen Ramos and Compean been set free from the they have been in since their convictions in 2005.
Their convictions in my opinion are one of the worst miscarriages of justice in American judicial history. Worse than a miscarriage they were railroaded into prison by the Texas Attorney General assisted by the Mexican consulate. They were the last two pardons of the Bush administration.
Actually I should not say pardons as their sentences were commuted. The story of this trial has reached epic proportions since their convictions.
Ramos and Compean became a rallying point among conservatives and on talk shows where their supporters called them heroes. Nearly the entire bipartisan congressional delegation from Texas and other lawmakers from both sides of the political aisle pleaded with Bush to grant them clemency.
The fact that American court gave immunity to a drug dealer to testify against the two border patrolman is embarrassing. The fact that that drug dealers history was hidden from the court and from the jury was unfair. And even worse, the drug dealer was again busted in bringing drugs into the United States after the trial.
It is of course my opinion than Johnny Sutton the Texas Attorney General was in cahoots with the Mexican consulate with the involvement and approval of George W. Bush.
Both men were released today February 17 within a couple hours of each other. Thus ends a sad chapter in judicial history, but this will not end the memory of two men doing their jobs. This cannot be allowed to happen again.
