Introduction
The Queen of Pentacles, like the other Queens, is programmed to be more inward-looking and emotionally based than the Kings who are outward-looking and action-based. However, this water of earth Queen is always ready to play her part in getting things done. Very similar to the Empress, she has a down-to-earth, pragmatic energy.
Imagery
The Queen of Pentacles sits on her heavily carved throne within a lush landscape of fruits, flowers, trees, and fields. In the background are a river, a lake, and mountains. Her throne sports carvings of fruits, cherubs, a bull’s horn and a goat’s head, which connects this queen to the sign of Capricorn. A small rabbit or hare hops into view at the bottom right of the card.
The Queen wears an earthy reddish gown over a white shift. Her cloak is green and secured by her crown. The crown is closed and has an odd little red decoration on the top. She holds a large golden coin and looks down at it lovingly, probably planning next week’s menu.
Personality
The Queen of Pentacles is a practical, friendly woman. She works hard and puts one hundred percent into everything she does. She is usually surrounded by family – her own and other people’s. She dispenses tea and biscuits, solves problems and does the school run along with myriad other tasks. She is somewhat of an anachronism in today’s society as she is a home-maker rather than a career woman. Although it is possible for her to be both, her priority is taking care of other people. Unlike the empathic Queen of Cups, she won’t put up with you feeling sorry for yourself for too long. She will help as long as you are willing to help yourself too.
General Meanings
When this Queen appears in a general reading, she may be representing a real person in the seeker’s life or aspects of their own personality. Often she will be advising you to get in touch with your Queen of Pentacles. Perhaps you need to stop talking and start taking practical steps? Maybe you need to prioritize your life? The Queen will always put family first; career takes second place, every time.
Should the Queen of Pentacles appear with certain other cards, such as the Ace of Wands or Page of Cups, she may be hinting at pregnancy. In some decks, she is shown as pregnant.
The meaning of the reversed card is dependent on other cards and the circumstances surrounding the seeker. She can show slovenliness, lack of self-care and a disregard for her home. She can be uncaring, over-exacting and demanding — house-proud to the exclusion of everything else. This negative energy may manifest in obsessive-compulsive disorder, hoarding or depression. The reversed Queen of Pentacles may revel in gossip and bad-mouthing others. Like the other reversed Queens, she can also be the third side of a love triangle.
Interpretations in Various Areas of Life
Work
In a work reading, the Queen of Pentacles is a positive card. If looking for work, she will approach the task in an organized way. She will not waste her time considering jobs that are unsuitable. She gravitates towards careers such as teaching kindergarten or nursing.
In a work situation, she is methodical and reliable. She can be creative but doesn’t have the flair of the Queen of Wands. In the office, she will be the ‘mother hen’ and, in that role, invaluable to an employer who may not have the time and resources to deal with staff problems.
Finances
The Queen of Pentacles is always a good card to see in a financial reading. She represents abundance and an increasing flow of income. She assumes that she will be wealthy, and she is. She is more than willing to share her riches with others unless appearing in the reversed position. She knows that she can deplete her funds, knowing they will be replaced and increased accordingly.
Love
In a romantic reading, this Queen is cautious about falling in love. However, she is not afraid of ending a relationship when it’s on its last legs. She doesn’t dwell on it, just puts it down to experience and moves on. As a lover, she is earthy and exciting. As a mother, she epitomizes everyone’s idea of the perfect parent. If you are thinking of proposing to her, never do it in public.
If you are looking for love and this Queen shows up, either keep your eye open for a Queen of Pentacles type or take on some of her pragmatism and common sense. She can be rather calculating when deciding to date someone but, in the end, this hard-headed approach works. Marriage usually lasts for life with this woman.
Spirituality
The Queen of Pentacles feels most spiritually connected when holding a baby, making love, baking a cake, walking the dogs, giving a gift, or anything that ties in with her true nature.
