After standing firm in the Seven of Wands, we now proceed to the high-energy Eight of Wands. Eights are connected to organization and also to movement. This card has both. The time has come to garner our resources and use this burst of energy to create something special.
Eight staves fly through the air. Below lies a peaceful landscape with a meandering river and gently rolling hills. On top of the highest hill, there is a building. It looks a little like the church in the Five of Cups and the landscape in the Ace of Wands; it could also be the remains of the Tower 16. There is plenty of movement in this card, and there are no people to hinder the progress of the flying wands. There is much debate whether the wands are taking flight or heading earthward. The alignment of the leaves would suggest they are ascending, but the placement – look at the leaves at the end of the staves — might mean they are descending..
When the Eight of Wands turns up in your reading, know that you are about to move into a very high energy phase. You may be chosen to head up an important community project, to organize the annual family gathering or perhaps a wedding. It will generally involve a lot of delegation, plenty of coordination and cooperation. You may feel as though you are trying to herd cats, but your enthusiasm and ability to inspire others prevails and the job gets done in good time.
You fall in love with some mad scheme—except that you know that striking now will pay dividends in the future. It might be a new home requiring renovation, writing a book, traveling around the world or trekking across a desert or scaling Kilimanjaro, maybe raising money for charity—anything that leaves your nearest and dearest scratching their heads in puzzlement. Fear not. Plow your furrow. You know what you are doing and are prepared to see the challenge through to the end.
Opportunities present themselves temptingly, but take care to choose your projects according to your ability to complete them. Don’t take on too much. It’s better to do a few things with aplomb than many with slapdashery.
Reversed: you are running around like a headless chicken. Your efforts are undone due to lack of organization or lack of enthusiasm. The reversed Eight of Wands is the card of the failed project. If you are still at the initial stage, you can turn it around, get yourself organized, ask for help and get back on track.
