Wondering if your love is your twin flame? Wonder no more, this brand new tarot spread will help you determine if you have met your romantic partner in a previous life, and how far you are destined to travel together in this one.
What Is a Twin Flame?
People are often confused between the terms ‘soulmate’ and ‘twin flame’. A soulmate is your life-long love. A bond that lasts. Soulmates are helpers, lover, supporters, best friends. It’s possible, though unlikely, that they are not a romantic partner, for example you may meet a new friend and know instantly you are connected with them. Life feels better and easier when they are around.
If you are looking for a Soulmate Tarot Spread
Twin flames appear in our lives as teachers. They feel like a mirror. We see ourselves in them. The relationship may last for years, a whole lifetime, or just a few weeks or months. Twin flame relationships are never easy.
Twin flame relationships are heartbreaking, wonderful, traumatic, passionate and destructive. They rip your life apart and change your perspective on everything. You feel as though your soul has been torn into tiny pieces, thrown into the air and reassembled into a different you. Later, you may well look back with the understanding time bestows and realize why you met, why you had to be together, and why you ultimately had to part. Often, the pair are working through karmic issues from past lives. There could be a need to redress an old imbalance, or face a new challenge.
Why Do You Need a Twin Flame Tarot Spread
If you do this properly, keep a record of it, return to it regularly, it will shed light on all the things that puzzle you about the relationship. Knowing why things are the way they are helps you process your feelings about them. This one-off special reading will be your road-map and your guide.
What You Need
- A tarot deck. It can be old or new, but you need to connect with it, so keep it with you. Get familiar with the cards. You don’t have to be a tarot reader, but some basic knowledge of tarot is helpful. If you aren’t a reader, then purchase or borrow a good book to help you.
- Time without interruption.
- A comfortable space with room to lay out the reading on a table or desk.
- Any other items you feel would enhance the reading: candles, low light (making sure it’s not too dark to see the cards properly), gentle music, incense. None of those things are necessary, but they can help you get into a relaxed, receptive state of mind.
The Twin Flame Relationship Reading
Relax
Prepare yourself for the reading. Sit quietly. If you are used to meditating, take a few minutes to enter a calm state. Breathe steadily.
Shuffle your cards, slowly and deliberately. Focus on your actions in the moment, not on what is to come.
When you are ready, lay out six cards in the same pattern as the first part of a Celtic Cross. Two in the center, one below, one to the left, one above and one to the right.
Card Positions
Card 1. Is this a twin flame relationship?
Card 2. What is our purpose in this relationship?
Card 3. In what circumstances was this relationship forged (past lives)?
Card 4. What do we need to let go of in order to move forward?
Card 5. What are the challenges we must face together?
Card 6. What is the outcome of the relationship and lessons to be learned?
Assess the First Card
If the first card is particularly difficult, confusing or negative, it’s possible that you are not in a twin flame relationship at all. Perhaps you are assigning more to it than there really is. If this is the case, gather up the cards and put them away. If you are in a twin flame relationship, you will know soon enough and can repeat the tarot reading.
Should the first card clearly show this is definitely a twin flame relationship, then carry on. If you don’t read the cards, have a decent reference book to help you reach the relevant meanings.
Record Your Impressions
Take a photo of the reading. Write down your feelings about the cards, what they mean to you. Take the images literally, look for symbols that resonate with you. Even the backgrounds of the images can be important. In a few weeks, go back to the reading. Lay out the same cards again. See if anything has changed and now makes sense. Continue to make notes and record your thoughts.
Example Twin Flame Reading
Tonya is convinced Tony is her twin flame. She feels a strong bond with him, yet is frustrated because of the way they seem to clash over certain issues. It feels as if they have been together over several lifetimes, and this passion, and accompanying arguments have spanned space and time. She wants to know if there is a reason, a purpose to it.
These interpretations are necessarily brief and to the point. You can spend a lot longer going into the minutest detail on your own reading.
Card 1. Is this a twin flame relationship? The Star
Card 2. What is our purpose in this relationship? Two of Pentacles
Card 3. In what circumstances was this relationship forged (past lives)? Ten of Pentacles
Card 4. What do we need to let go of in order to move forward? Ten of Swords
Card 5. What are the challenges we must face together? Queen of Swords
Card 6. The outcome of the relationship, and lessons to be learned? Four of swords
It’s very interesting that three out of the six cards are Swords. This suggests that the basis and challenges of the relationship are intellectual—of the mind—rather than of the heart.
Card Interpretations
The Star indicates that this is indeed a twin flame relationship. It could not be clearer. The Star, taken literally, indicates that the relationship has occurred for lifetime after lifetime. It also says that there is a deep soul purpose to be fulfilled and it may not happen this time round.
Other cards that may confirm a twin flame relationship include: the Lovers, Two of Cups, any Ace, Page of Cups, Empress, Chariot, Moon, Sun, World, Four of Wands, Ten of Cups.
The Two of Pentacles shows that the purpose of the relationship in its current incarnation is to work things out. To accommodate each other, to compromise and to reach understanding. It seems that this occurrence of the partnership is not its ultimate destiny; it’s ongoing, as indicated by the sign of infinity often present in this card.
The Ten of Pentacles shows Tonya and Tony were linked by family connections in previous lifetimes. They may have been related, or part of some organization or clan. Their relationship may have developed from a family, or tribal endeavor.
The Ten of Swords tells them they have to let go of pain and old wounds. That their past is in the past, and they have to remove their focus from it. They may not even know that this is happening, although Tonya suspects it. This card is the key to the reading and to the relationship. There are many layers that we could examine.
The Queen of Swords represents honesty, but also treachery, two sides of the same coin (or sword, perhaps). One of their past issues was lack of truth or deception. The Queen of Swords has appeared to encourage them to face up to these things in the here and now.
The Four of Swords is brutally honest here. The relationship will not be for the whole of this lifetime. Each partner will need to withdraw, reassess and learn the lessons of this current incarnation in order to prepare for their next encounter.
This is fascinating stuff and it’s a shame we can’t go into more detail. However, if you have any questions or thoughts, let us know in the comments. Also, if you do this reading yourself, we’d love to know how it went and what you learned.
