A little while back we posted a twin flame tarot spread, which has become one of our most popular posts. In order to balance things out, today we’re going to give you a soulmate tarot spread. So, what’s the difference between a twin flame relationship and a soulmate relationship? Well, there’s a whole world of difference.
Twin Flame Relationships
These are probably the most difficult relationships you will ever encounter. They generally happen only once in a lifetime. Twin flame relationships are like an emotional body-slam. They are not always romantic connections; occasionally they can be with some other person, such as a parent or child. These relationships cause us to grow and learn exponentially. We learn more about ourselves than we care to know. They can elevate and devastate. They are never forgotten, and the lessons they bring surface again and again throughout our life. A twin flame relationship is not usually for a lifetime, though it may be on and off for a number of years. Twin flames reappear over many lifetimes.
Soul Mate Relationships
A soulmate relationship is healing. It can also teach us, but the lessons are subtle and gentle. They are more about how we treat other people. A soulmate relationship is warm and supportive. The depth of your soulmate’s love for you is infinite. Children of soulmates grow up in a stable and loving environment. Like a twin flame relationship, you may meet your soulmate over many lifetimes. Unlike most twin flame relationships, your soulmate will be with you until the end.
Soulmate Tarot Spread
We’ve devised this tarot spread to give you more information about your soulmate relationship. As with the Twin Flame spread, keep a record of it so you can return to it over time. A really good idea is to recreate it occasionally with different tarot decks. This will give you even more insights into the dynamics of the relationship.
As usual, we’ll do a very quick example reading to give you flavor of how it works. Remember that your own reading can be as in-depth as you like.
Prepare for your reading as you normally would. Get into a relaxed state of mind and body and make sure there will be no interruptions. Shuffle and lay out the cards as follows:
- Card 1. Is *name* my soulmate?
- Card 2. What are the issues/challenges we face together?
- Card 3. What lesson/understanding do we need to carry through the years?
- Card 4. What can we let go?
- Card 5. What are our main strengths?
- Card 6. Our lifetime prospects together?
You can lay out the spread as you prefer. I’ll do it 1—3 in a row at the top and 4—6 at the bottom.
Positive First Cards
Card one should be clear and unequivocal in its meaning, so we would be hoping for one of the following:
- High Priestess
- Empress
- The Lovers
- Temperance
- The Star
- The Sun
- The World
- Any Ace
- Two of Cups
- Six of Cups
- Nine of Cups
- Ten of Cups
- Page of Cups
- Four of Wands
Any of these would indicate a resounding yes to the first question: Is this person my soulmate? You have to go with your immediate emotional response, so if the Six of Wands showed up, it might feel like a yes to you. That’s good. Your intuition always knows the right answer.
If that first card is negative, you can carry on with the reading if you want, in order to shed some light on your current relationship. And of course, a negative or ‘no’ first card doesn’t, for one moment, indicate that the relationship is doomed. It may very well last a lifetime, it simply means that this person might not be your soulmate. Also bear in mind that sometimes it takes a while for two soulmates to connect and recognize each other.
Example Soulmate Tarot Reading
Barry and Michele have been together a little over three months. Michelle is beginning to wonder if this relationship is much deeper and significant than she first thought. She decides to ask the tarot.
- Card 1. Is Barry my soulmate? – Temperance
- Card 2. What are the issues/challenges we face together? – King of Pentacles
- Card 3. What lesson/understanding do we need to carry through the years? – Three of Wands
- Card 4. What can we let go? – Eight of Cups
- Card 5. What are our main strengths? Six of Pentacles
- Card 6. Our lifetime prospects together? – High Priestess
Interpretation of Example Soulmate Reading
Card one is Temperance so an excellent start. Temperance indicates that the right chemistry is there. They have a perfect mix or personality traits; as a couple they complement each other. Therefore I would take this as a ‘yes’.
Card two, the King of Pentacles shows Michelle that work may often take precedent over the relationship, particularly from Barry’s perspective. Michelle may have to face this as a challenge, deal with it, and learn and accept that it is work that drives Barry forward. She also should understand that they will both reap the benefits later in life.
Card three, the Three of Wands tells her that patience is key. Allowing things to happen in their own good time will bring the rewards of a deeper relationship. This could relate to card two, in that his career is fundamental to Barry’s well-being, although it might equally apply to her, of course.
Card four, the Eight of Cups, shows her that over the time of the relationship, many emotional issues will have to be faced. The way to deal with them is to not walk away, but to explore them together then agree to let them go once they’ve assimilated the experiences. Each issue will take the relationship to a deeper, stronger level. Eights are related to movement, or lack of it. Eights are also steady and rounded, thus the couple have the ability to weather any storms up ahead.
Card five is the Six of Pentacles and this is a really good example of ‘give and take’. This ability to allow each other to grow by giving wholehearted support, and then to be able to rely on that ever-present support in return. This card, in this position indicates a healthy relationship.
Card six represents lifelong prospects, and the High Priestess shows that this relationship is a very special one with a connection being made at the soul level. It will be based on both partner’s intuition, and that they can safely navigate the choppy relationship waters by listening to the messages from their inner beings.
Of course, you can delve into the cards much more thoroughly that I’ve done here. Pay attention to the symbolism, colors, the figures in the cards, and as I mentioned previously, try laying out the same cards but using a different deck. This one reading could be your road map for the future of your love.
Hoping you stay in love forever.
