Taurus Characteristics

Rooted to the element of earth, Taurus is the zodiac sun sign for those born between April 20th and May 20th. Bold, sure-footed, and full of confidence, Taurus hides some interesting, and sometimes vulnerable, traits. We’re going to start, as usual, at the end of the previous sign, the Aries-Taurus cusp. Read on to find out more about Taurus characteristics.

taurus characteristics

Aries-Taurus Cusp

Individuals born in the week between April 19th and 24th are ‘cuspers’. They tend to have characteristics that span two signs, in this case Aries and Taurus. The main motivation for this group is power. They view the acquisition of power as nothing less than their birthright. It is as necessary as oxygen. This doesn’t mean for one second that they are ruthless or unpleasant. Quite the contrary, Aries-Taurus cusp is naturally friendly and outgoing. So nice, that it makes more sense to agree with them than oppose them.

Aries-Taurus never dominate proceedings. They aren’t loud or overbearing. In fact the opposite is true. Their innate and very delicate sense of timing means they can be subtle and self-assured. No need for any power struggle here. They know their goals and aims and work towards them with little fuss.

Ultimately, Aries-Taurus would like to lead a life of simple luxury. Beneath their quiet determination hides someone who likes to be lazy. They want to get to where they want to be. Then happily coast until retirement and long days of hedonistic enjoyment.

As a partner, Aries-Taurus is easy going and lovable. Once they understand that they must give up that need for power. This can be hard for them as it goes against their natural tendencies. They would do well to discuss this freely with their partner. Perhaps negotiate power ‘terms’ which are satisfactory to both. Aries-Taurus may have many partners in their youth. But in the end, their true desire is to settle down with someone who loves and appreciates them.

Taurus 1

April 25th to May 2nd is the week of Taurus 1. This group is the most dominant week of all the Zodiac signs. They are practical, pragmatic and wholly connected to the here and now. Although not imaginative, they are extremely entrepreneurial. They tend to go with tried and tested business models. Not for them the big, wild idea.

Taurus 1’s metier is in planning and organization. Their personality makes them the ideal person to be in charge of any project. While perfectly reasonable, their domineering presence brooks no arguments. Thus they are ideally placed for getting any job done. Their downfall is in their unwillingness to change or to try a new approach. They would prefer to keep repeating old methods ‘because they work’, rather than adopting a new approach that might work even better.

This group are nurturers and protectors. They are uncomfortable if their ‘charges’ engage in petty or argumentative behavior. They don’t know how to deal with it – they want everyone to get along. Taurus 1 needs coping strategies to fall back on in these kinds of situations; whether it be employees or their own children who are causing a fuss.

Taurus 1 has a different view of their own personality than others do. They see themselves as stable, down-to-earth, balanced and all-knowing. We see someone who tries to tough it out, but who has obvious vulnerabilities and sensitivities. It is hard for Taurus 1 to come to terms with who they really are. They also need to learn they do not have to tell everyone how wonderful and generous they are. Let your actions do the talking. Taurus 1s would do well to see themselves as a project that requires work. They should not be afraid of delving into their own psyches.

Partners of Taurus 1 should learn that a head-on confrontation with this bull is never going to end well. Instead they should focus on a benevolent kind of emotional manipulation. Appeal to Taurus 1’s sense of protection and their desire for harmony. Where you might have difficulty is getting Taurus 1 to address minor problems at home. Whether it’s something that needs fixing, or dealing with a fractious child. They prefer to coast along, not overly bothered by detail – after all they get that all day at work. Should the relationship become untenable, Taurus 1 will find it almost impossible to let go. They must learn that sometimes they have to.

taurus characteristics

Taurus 2

Born in the week, May 3rd to May 10th, Taurus 2’s favorite occupation is to talk. There’s nothing they enjoy more than sharing information. They love to observe, verbalize, direct the discussion and analyze any situation they are involved with. Unfortunately, one of their predilections is towards gossip. If they can control that urge to over-share information, their communication skills can be put to good use. They are natural teachers and enjoy maintaining a teacher/student relationship. Taurus 2 prefers interactions to be one-to-one or in small groups. They don’t do so well in large groups or gatherings, where they feel over-shadowed and overwhelmed.

Taurus 2 is observant of, and concerned about, the well-being of others. They are interested how other people live, and are strong and vociferous advocates for the less-advantaged. They enjoy fighting a cause on behalf of those who they think deserve it. They have entrenched ideas about right and wrong, and always place themselves firmly on the side of ‘right’. Their overall perspective is usually based on early experiences. It will stay with them all their life. Fairness is their overarching raison d’etre. They become obsessed with any observed injustice, and are not afraid to express their feelings about it. Taurus 2 should learn to be playful and practice going with the flow.

In relationships, Taurus 2 are not the easiest people to get on with. They are over-critical and demanding. They require their nearest and dearest to maintain the same high standards that they themselves adhere to. Friendships can be problematical too. Some will simply up and go, rather than subject themselves to comparison and criticism. Those who love them stay because they understand that Taurus 2 is basically a lovely person who only wants the best for everyone. They understand their abrasive exterior is the result of hidden vulnerabilities and their desire to get things right.

Taurus 3

May 13th to 18th is the week of Taurus 3. Much less domineering than the rest of the Taurus gang, Taurus 3 is sensitive and individualistic. On the outside they are zany and fun-loving; on the inside they feel as if they are open to attack. One of their fundamental needs is to be able to withdraw now and then to regain their confidence. They can’t bear feeling pressured to conform to other people’s ideas of how they should behave, react, think and feel. All this is difficult to process as they grow from childhood to young adult and frequently results in nervousness and neurosis.

Where Taurus 3 excels is in the realm of imagination and creativity. They lean towards artistic pursuits where they feel free to express their inner demons in a playful way. This kind of activity is a natural outlet, so Taurus 3s who suffer mental stress can find a great deal of relief in art and music therapy.

As they become more independent in life, Taurus 3 begins to find their feet and grow into their own personality. They are naturally impulsive and gregarious. They love excitement and need to monitor their own behavior to avoid getting themselves into trouble. Their emotional volatility and low boredom threshold is problematical during the teenage years.

Taurus 3 is quite drawn to making money. It helps them to underpin the shifting sands of their own insecurities. So amassing a nest egg becomes part of their coping strategy. Thus, they are sensible and pragmatic when handling money. They need work that engages and lifts them. They are unable to maintain a humdrum existence for any length of time. Work which involves ideas-creation, brainstorming and problem-solving is always a good thing. Days that are radically different: meeting new people, being able to express their individuality are all grist to the mill for Taurus 3.

In relationships Taurus 3 does well. They are sensitive to their own shortcomings so make heroic attempts to overcome them. This makes them work hard to ensure their personal relationship work. They are sensitive to the needs of others and understand how it feels to be ill-at-ease and vulnerable. Thus they are very gentle with those they love. In turn, partners need to make themselves aware of the turmoil that lies beneath the surface of Taurus 3, and treat them with care. Taurus 3 always values a relationship where they are supported and loved.
